218 North is an organization offered by the non-profit organization Cobalt Community Research. Cobalt helps communities innovate, adapt to changing needs, prioritize resources, and deliver service through quality data and the voices of the people in the community. Quality workspace is a clear need for talented professionals and entrepreneurs in the Charlotte region. When Cobalt purchased this historic building for our own home location, we saw the opportunity for others to benefit from it as well. We look forward to meeting you! |
Welcome to 218 North – Where History Meets Innovation
Are you an entrepreneur, remote professional, or small business owner looking for a workspace that inspires productivity and professionalism—without sacrificing character? Welcome to 218 North, a reimagined coworking and office space designed for today’s flexible workforce in the heart of the Charlotte region. Sited in a stunning 1879 Victorian home known historically as Baughman Manor, this 4,000-square-foot property offers modern work amenities wrapped in timeless craftsmanship. Whether you need a quiet office suite, collaborative coworking space, professional mailing address, or a fully equipped meeting room, 218 North delivers—with style. Features Include:
A Legacy of Resilience and Reinvention Built by A.D. Baughman, a Civil War veteran and early Charlotte entrepreneur and civic leader, the building has evolved through time as a private mansion, the town’s first hospital, and a bed and breakfast - and even an underground tattoo parlor. Each chapter adds to the creative energy that now fuels a space designed for bold new ventures. It’s also been featured in paranormal investigations. The home hosts friendly spirits and a mischievous ghost cat. But don’t worry, our ghostly residents are more curious than creepy. Whether you're launching your next startup, building your consultancy, searching for professional suites, or simply looking for a place to think and thrive, 218 North offers more than workspace — it offers presence, purpose, and a touch of the extraordinary. |
